About

History

Created in 2001, the original mission of the Nebraska City Museum Association was to provide professional museum consulting, coordination and project management to develop the Nebraska City, Nebraska existing museums and create proposed museums.  Over the past 15 years, the six existing museums continue to improve with the addition of four museums created during that period.

Over this period, the Association itself has changed to become a collaboration of all of the museums of Otoe County, Nebraska, to improve awareness, increase visitation to the county and better use limited resources.  While the Association is not in charge of any of the museums, it still acts as a leadership entity to foster collaborative efforts to benefit all of the participating museums.

Nebraska City Museum Association institutions include:

  • Nebraska City Museum of Firefighting
  • Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Center
  • Wildwood Historic Center
  • Mayhew Cabin & John Brown's Cave
  • Kregel Windmill Factory Museum
  • River Country Nature Center
  • Nelson House
